Bungaya Community Centre

Project Description

The Bungaya Community Center provides over 4000 villagers with a community center that features a library, kitchen, restroom and open pavilion, bale.  The project is located in Bungaya Village in eastern Bali, Indonesia and will consist of two construction phases with the library building in phase one and the bale in phase two.  The library gives villagers in a very poor area access to the books and tools necessary to learn and read english in a tourism driven country.  Bungaya Community Center empowers a community while providing a sanctuary for traditional rituals and ceremonies.

After completion of the community center, it has since been used for communal events, educational seminars, and as an evacuation center during two volcanic eruptions, a tsunami and an earthquake.  During these natural disasters, the community center provided a temporary school for 7 villages and temporary housing for 14 people.  As one of the only accessible buildings in the area, the community center has been a pivotal resource for the area.
